Came to the door where the eagle hangs and waits to let you in
To the cool silence of the stones
Shades of Tintagel English legend under African skies
Time out of mind to carry you home
We fell into conversation comparing worlds that never met
Watching the hawks hang on the wind
And looking inside for the answers in the places that I seldom have to go
Nobody saw the clouds roll in
Then it was running in rivers through the door through the night
Through the homes of the people on the hill
And while some were washed away still the refuge remained
The legend and the castle standing still
Shelter from the storm
Here we bring the child inside and set him on the road to make his way
Finding a harbour staying alive
Losing sight of the stars while the thunder rolls
The rain comes down and the lightning splits the sky
Caught in the storm trying to survive
Somehow he learned to catch the sunlight as it filtered from the sky
And weave its gold into a tune
And how to reach beyond the curtain of the storm clouds in the night
And paint with the silver of the moon
But still it is running in rivers through the door through the night
Through the lives of the people on the hill
And though some are washed away still the strong ones remain
A refuge for a spirit moving still
Shelter from the storm
So we sing our songs again and paint our pictures brightly on the wall
And build our castles in the sky
And when the rain comes down to wash the earth away they will remain
To carry the memory down in time
Running through the verses with the rhythm and the rhyme the colours play
Washing the canvas in shades of sound
Living on in the stones and the poetry forever in the words we leave behind
Maybe perfection next time around
But now it is running in rivers through your soul through your mind
Through the hearts of the people on the hill
And while some are washed away still the magic remains
The colours and the music playing still
Shelter from the storm
