Light & Sound
Light and Sound was recorded at C&G Studios in Westville, Durban and released in 1998. My first experience recording an album in a professional studio, it was a more time-sensitive process than previous albums. The freedom of 24 tracks allowed space for bigger arrangements. Co-produced by Don Clarke (the studio owner) and Will Wallace, I was still working with old and familiar friends. We put down the rhythm tracks first, in several lengthy evening sessions to catch the window while drummer Bruce Baker and bassist Dean Squire were available. I was teaching guitar at a couple of local schools at the time, grabbing a take-away after an afternoon of teaching and going straight to the studio. After working a 6-hour recording session, my fingers were raw. Vocals and extra guitars and instruments were overdubbed at a more leisurely pace afterwards.
