The exception

I'm always looking for the good side of life

Always expecting the best

Though I don't find many heroes on the way

They're okay pretty good I guess

And when I come across the exception to the rule

It always takes me by surprise

And I can never understand the need to kill

Shoot me down make me cry, and I wonder why

Do you beat your wife do you torture your animals

Are you scared of life are you afraid of me

Do you drink to be brave or do you drink for oblivion

And if you looked inside what would you see

So does it make you feel superior

To put down what you don't understand

You think destruction beats creation

And marks you as the man

And does it ease your insecurity

Make you feel strong to destroy the weak

Don't you know that you're just painting your own portrait

With all the names you're calling me, with every word you speak

How you beat your wife how you torture your animals

How you're scared of life and you're afraid of me

Do you drink to be brave or do you drink for oblivion

And if you looked inside what would you see

Still I'd rather see the good side

Than always searching for the bad

Guaranteed you'll find the world the way it is inside your head

And I'll keep the memory for protection

Know the exception is out there

And hope inside for some primeval form of justice

To set things straight make us square, and all I have to say now is

Do you beat your wife do you torture your animals

Are you scared of life are you afraid of me

Do you drink to be brave or do you drink for oblivion

And if you looked inside what would you see

If you looked inside could you bear to see

You don't look inside cause you don't want to see
