Halfway Down the Road

You know how old they used to say a man can be

Three score years and ten and that's the end

It was just the other day that it occurred to me

That we all die it's just a case of when

It's no mean feat to make it to the place i'm at

Though some will say it happens every day

The wonder of it all is that in looking back

There've been so many good times on the way

Five and thirty milestones standing in a row

Every one has told a different story

For every tale they tell there's one more still to know

Cause you see I'm only halfway down the road

The tales go back from yesterday to long ago

And the years run on

And hold the future close so we don't know

No one else has lived through all the things I've done

And yet there's still so many things to do

Though many dreams and many schemes are passed and gone

It's not too late to make new dreams come true

So all that I can do is try to make it through

The other five and thirty still to go

And hope that there'll have been new friends and things to do

And twice as many good times as before

Orion is the watchword he's watching over me

A lucky star can lighten up the load

Been halfway round the world And there's still the rest to see

Cause you know I'm only halfway down the road

He's guarded me through fairytale and tragedy

and the theme runs on

and guides this river onward to the sea

See how many lives will fit within a day

Waste no time and time will not waste you

And hold on to the sunsets and the songs you play

And feeling good and things you like to do

Looking back will keep it in your memory

And looking on will show you where to go

And looking in will keep the world in harmony

And keep your footsteps firmly on the road

Orion is the watchword he's watching over me

A lucky star can light you as you go

For every place I've been there's one more still to see

Cause you know I'm only halfway down the road

You know I'm only halfway down the road

Yeah you know I'm only halfway down the road
